Kesar Mohanthal – Saffron Gram Flour Fudge from Gujarat

A much-loved Gujarati mithai, mohanthal is made from ground chana dal roasted in ghee and set with sugar syrup. This kesar version adds a little milk, saffron and cardamom, and is finished with almonds. The result is dense and fudge-like, with a toasty, nutty taste.

Mohanthal is a must on the Diwali sweet tray and a favourite offering at Janmashtami. Serve it at weddings and pujas, or pack it into festive gift boxes for family near and far.
