Ghee Ghughra – Crisp Pastries with a Sweet Coconut and Dry Fruit Filling
Ghee Ghughra is a Gujarati Diwali sweet. A thin maida pastry made with ghee is rolled out, filled and folded into a half-moon. Its edge is twisted by hand into a rope-like border, and the ghughras are then fried in ghee until pale golden and crisp.
The filling is a sweet mix of semolina, sugar and desiccated coconut with chopped cashews, almonds, pistachios, raisins and a touch of cardamom. Each bite gives a flaky crust and a crumbly, mildly sweet centre.
Many Gujarati families make ghughras for Diwali and offer them to guests through the festival. They sit well in a Diwali sweet box beside mohanthal and kaju katri, and go nicely with a cup of tea.
Available in 250g and 500g boxes. Order Ghee Ghughra online from Radhe Prem Ni Mithaas for delivery anywhere in India.
